“Margins (Four) 10” from Groupings

It started accidentally. From January to June of 2011, I walked hundreds of miles around West Los Angeles, primarily looking down.

Taking these photos taught me to relentlessly avoid turning away, that longing and sorrow — even decay and waste — exist in tandem with beauty.

I kept one rule while shooting pictures: record what is. Watch, come back later if the sun’s too high, kneel when being closer is better, wait for the wind to calm, but no matter what, don’t ever touch a thing.
